Circus of the Stars

Circus of the Stars was a charity event of the evening paper and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, which was broadcast once a year from the Circus Krone-Bau in Munich.

History

This event took place in 1959, at that time still under the name of charity to return the evacuees Munich until 2008. The first issues were still aired in the middle, later, the event was moved to the Christmas season. From 1962 it was held in the Circus - Krone-Bau.

In early December the gala evening was recorded by Bavarian Television and broadcast on Boxing Day in the First, together with the ORF and the Swiss television in the context of Euro vision.

There were celebrities from film, radio and television, but also from the sport in the arena of the Circus Krone as artists, tamers and clowns. They renounced it for a good cause on their fees. In addition to professional artists presented their skills and made themselves known in this way the general public.

The proceeds of this event came the Werner - Friedmann Foundation for old artists and journalists, and since 1998 two thirds of the Action Children in Need benefit.

In 2003, a compilation of a total length of four hours was created, in which Gerhard Schmitt - Thiel took moderation. The extra turned with him scenes took place in a studio of the BR, in the extra- purpose a cash car of the Circus Krone was set up. This mission was sent under the title " The Long Night of Stars" last on various third party programs.

The 2008 Gala, hosted by actor Fritz Wepper, waived for the first time completely on the presentation of wildlife within the actual show. The actress Simone Thomalla was originally intended to show a dressage with elephants, but was ultimately seen in a knife thrower - performance. On animals, were thus only horses, ducks, dogs and llamas in the program. However, a scene was filmed for television broadcasting, in the Fritz Wepper an elephant Circus Krone is a bread and tells them that the animal " today have free".

In 2009, the ARD renounced the gala, which was officially founded with declining rates. It is a summary of the highlights of the past decades has been sent instead. On 12 March 2010 the Bavarian Radio announced that the program would be discontinued.

In the GDR there was as equivalent to Circus of the Stars the night of celebrities, which was also broadcast every Boxing Day on East German television.
