Citroën Mehari (1968-1987)
The Citroën Mehari was an open leisure car with ABS body of Citroën based on the Citroën 2CV and Dyane. The name comes from the French term for a Renndromedar.
History
From May 1968 to October 1987 a total of 144.953 Mehari were built, including 1,213 with all-wheel drive (model AYCE ).
For the French army in addition Mehari 15,000 and 5,000 all-wheel drive A4x4 mentioned versions were produced with the more powerful engine of the Citroën Visa. In Germany, the Mehari was, in contrast to Switzerland, not sold, since because of the combustible plastic body None General authorization was granted. In Southern France, Brittany and on the Elba Mehari is still frequently encountered in the streets.

In Germany there was the Fiberfab Sherpa with GRP bodywork of the company Fiberfab body from Ilsfeld, the Mehari resembling a kit car on 2CV - based. Since 2011, the Mehari is also newly available kit car from the Düsseldorf company Malzkorn. This " El Cid " said kit is also made of fiberglass.
In Greece, the Namco Pony was built and sold in Germany. It was also based on the 2CV and Mehari was similar to but had a body made of sheet steel. Citroën supplied the chassis and the drive.
