City of Salford

Salford is a metropolitan borough with the status of a city in the metropolitan county of Greater Manchester in England. It is named after the city of Salford; However, council is based in Swinton. Other important towns in the district are Boothstown, Broughton, Cadishead, Eccles, Irlam, Pendlebury, Pendleton and Worsley.

The reorganization of the limits and the capabilities of local authorities led in 1974 to form the Metropolitan Borough. Were fused while the County Borough of Salford, the Municipal Boroughs Eccles and Swinton and Pendlebury Urban District and the Irlam and Worsley. These authorities previously belonged to the county of Lancashire.

1986 Salford was in fact a Unitary Authority, as the central government dissolved the overall management of Greater Manchester. Salford was for ceremonial purposes part of Greater Manchester, as well as for individual higher-level tasks such as police, fire and public transport.

A well-known citizens of the place was George Bradshaw (1801-1853), an English cartographer and course book publisher.
