Clachan Bridge

The Clachanbrücke (English: Clachan Bridge ) is also called Bridge Over the Atlantic ( German: Bridge over the Atlantic Ocean ). It creates for cars and pedestrians a connection between the Scottish mainland and the two ferry ports on the Hebridean island of rope, one of the Slate Islands west of Argyll.

The bridge was designed and built by the Scottish engineer and architect Robert Mylne. It was opened in 1792. It is still in operation and one of the oldest unchanged bridges across estuaries in Western Europe.

In early summer the bridge is covered with the flowers of the Alps balm ( Erinus alpinus ), a broomrape plant, which is here called fairy foxgloves ( German: Feenhandschuhe or Feenfäustlinge ).
