Rope ( Scottish Gaelic Saoil ) is an island of the Inner Hebrides. It is one of the Slate Islands ( German " Slate Islands " ) and Unitary Authority Argyll and Bute.

The island, which is about eleven kilometers south of the town of Oban, has an area of ​​13.29 km ². In 2010, lived around 550 inhabitants on rope.

The Clachanbrücke (also bridge across the Atlantic ), which was designed by the engineer and architect Robert Mylne, since its opening in 1792, connects the Scottish mainland with the island. It is a listed building and is considered the biggest attraction of the island.

The capital of the island is Ellenabeich. From there, there is a ferry to Easdale. From the village of Cuan on rope goes another ferry to the island of Luing, which is located south of rope. In Ellenabeich Opened in 2000, the Ellenabeich Heritage Centre, which deals with the life in the 19th century, the slate quarrying and the local flora, fauna and geology.
