Clans, Haute-Saône

Clans is a municipality in the French department of Haute- Saône in the Franche-Comté region.

Geography

Clans lies at an altitude of 225 m above sea level, about 9 km west-southwest of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, a slight increase on the western edge of the Talniederung Baignotte, at the western foot of the heights, which rise between the river valleys of the Saône and Ognon.

The area of ​​4.37 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the upper Saônebeckens. The eastern boundary runs along the Baignotte, with several turns through a Talniederung northward flowing to Durgeon. From the river, the municipality's area extends westward over a slope, which is subdivided by several Seitentälchen the Baignotte up on the adjacent plateau. This plateau is composed of Tertiary sediments. Agricultural land use predominates here, but there are larger areas of forest, including the Grand Bois in the west and the Bois du Chanois in the south. Here the highest elevation of clans is achieved with 257 m.

Neighboring communities of clans are Boursières in the north, Velle -le- Châtel in the east, Baignes and Raze in the south and Aroz in the West.

History

Several findings indicate that the area was already inhabited in Gallo- Roman times. In the Middle Ages clans belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. In the 18th century, the lords of Broissia and Bauffremont have held dominion over the village. Today the clan is a member of the comprehensive 22 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Combes. Clans does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Velle -le- Châtel.

Attractions

Among the attractions of the place include a Calvaire, which is dated to 1722, as well as several fountains dating from the 19th century.

Population

With 117 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) is a clan of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 196 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Clan was well into the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the agglomeration Vesoul.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Vesoul after Fresne -Saint- Mamès. Another road connection with Boursières.
