Clapham Common tube station

Clapham Common is an underground station of the London Underground in the London Borough of Lambeth. It is located in the Travelcard Zone 2 at the northeast corner of the park of the same name. Here trains to the Northern Line. In 2011, 9.06 million passengers used the station.

The station was opened on June 3, 1900 by the City and South London Railway and formed at that time the southern terminus. The opening of the extension to the murders took place on 13 September 1926. During extensive renovations along the whole line of the station on 28 November 1923 to the December 1, 1924 was closed.

Next Clapham North Clapham Common is the only remaining station type of tube, which has a central platform; a design that was still widespread at the beginning of the 20th century along the Northern Line. Characteristic of the station building ( 1923/24, by Charles Holden partly rebuilt ) is the glass dome above the entrance. Since 1981, the building is a listed building (Grade II). Clapham Common is one of eight stations of the London Underground, which were expanded into an air raid shelter during the Second World War.
