Clarissimo Falconieri Mellini

Chiarissimo Falconieri Mellini ( born September 25, 1794 in Rome, † August 22, 1859 in Ravenna ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Chiarissimo Falconieri Mellini was the youngest of two sons of Count Alessandro Falconieri Mellini and his wife Marianna Lante Montefeltro della Rovere. His mother's ancestors were rulers over Bomarzo. The future cardinal was even related to three purple straps. He was spacious with Leilo Falconieri - collected in 1643 by Pope Urban VIII in the Cardinal stand - and in 1724 by Pope Benedict XIII. Cardinal Alessandro created Falconieri related to him. 1747 Chiarissimo Falconieri Mellinis great-great uncle Mario Millini by Pope Benedict XIV was elevated to cardinal.

After visiting the Collegio Tolomei in Siena and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome Falconieri Mellini wrote to La Sapienza University also in Rome at which he received his doctorate in law in both civil as well as ecclesiastical law on September 13, 1824.

After his ordination, which took place already on September 19, 1818 Falconieri Mellini found employment as an auditor ( auditor ) to the Roman Rota. At the same time he was personal chaplain in the household of Pope Pius VII. Thereafter Falconieri Mellini rose rapidly in the Church hierarchy. After only eight years as chaplain and simple priest, he was appointed on 3 July 1826 Archbishop of Ravenna. Again, twelve years later, Pope Gregory XVI took him. in the consistory of February 12, 1838 to the College of Cardinals, and transferred to the new cardinal priest, after he had three days later, on 15 February 1838 received Cardinal's ring and biretta, the titular church of San Marcello. In 1846, Cardinal Mellini Falconieri participated in this year's conclave in which Pius IX. was chosen.

Beginning of 1859 - the exact date is not known - Falconieri Mellini was elected treasurer of the College of Cardinals. He remained there until his death, in August of the same year. He was 64 years old. His grave is located in the Cathedral of Ravenna.
