Claude Janiak

Claude Janiak ( born October 30, 1948 in Basel, hometown entitled in Basel and Binningen ) is a Swiss politician (SP).

Life

Janiak was born the son of a Polish father and a Swiss interned in Basel. After leaving school at the Humanistic Gymnasium in Basel Janiak studied law at the University and graduated in 1971 with a master's from. In 1975 he earned his doctorate in 1978 he became a lawyer.

Janiak was from 1974 to 1979 the municipal council of Bubendorf, from 1981-87 and from 1994-99 basel scenic district, from 1989 to 1995 president of the SP Basel Country and 1998-99 president of the district administrator. Between 1988 and 1995, he also belonged to the Einwohnerrat in Binningen. In the 1999 elections he was elected to the National Council and re-elected in 2003. In 2006 he was National President. In 2007 he was elected to the Senate for Basel-Land.

He was the first president of the National Council, which is open to his homosexuality.
