Claudio Sala

Claudio Sala ( born September 8, 1947 in Macherio ) is a former Italian football player and coach, who was active during his playing career from 1965 to 1982 for AC Monza Brianza, Napoli, Torino Calcio and Genoa as well as for the Italian national football team.

Playing career

Association

Claudio Sala started his career in 1965 at the AC Monza Brianza, for the first team he ran aground three years in the championship. A year later he rose with Monza from the third-rate series C. In the following year the immediate promotion back to Serie B, could be realized. In 1968, the midfielder signed a contract with Napoli, with whom he reached the seventh place in Serie A. Then he moved again to the club and joined Torino Calcio on. The people of Turin he was eleven years under contract and has attended numerous games for Torino.

His greatest successes he celebrated winning the Italian Championship in the 1975/76 season and the Coppa Italia in 1971. His greatest personal success was achieved in the years 1976 and 1977, when he was honored by the Italian sports magazine Guerin Sportivo Il with the award for best player of the year in Serie A. In 1980 he left Turin and went to Genoa. With the Genoese club he managed in the 1980/81 season promotion to the top flight a year later and was able to secure the league in Serie A. National

In 1971, Sala was also the first appointed to the Italian national football team, for whom he made ​​his debut in the match against Austria on 20 November 1971. The highlight of his career in the national team was participating in the World Cup 1978. Sala was summoned by national team coach Enzo Bearzot in the Italian squad for the tournament and used in the two games against the Netherlands and Brazil. Coaching career

In contrast to his active career Claudio Sala has had little success as a coach at his subsequent stations. In the 1988/89 season, he took over as successor to the sacked Luigi Radice Torino Calcio. Also Sala could avoid relegation to Serie B and was subsequently dismissed.

In the summer of 1990, the then third-tier U.S. Catanzaro him committed as their new coach. After the disappointing results, coupled with the fall into the relegation zone, he received in the same year the dismissal to the club. However, at the beginning of the following year those responsible brought him again as head coach to Catanzaro back, but before the end of the season he was replaced by Gennaro Rambone and finally dismissed. The crew eventually got down to the fourth-rate Serie C2.
