Cleopatra Alcyone

Cleopatra (Greek Κλεοπάτρα ) is a figure from Greek mythology.

She was the daughter of Idas and Marpessa, the daughter of the river god Evenus, and married the Aetolian hero Meleager, son of the king of Calydon Oineus (or Ares) and Althaea. Because her mother had sued by Apollon like a kingfisher at its prey, Cleopatra was described by her parents as Alcyone. Meleager gave birth to a daughter named Cleopatra Polydora, who married the Greek princes Protesilaos. When the Curetes of Calydon besieged Cleopatra was able to bring her husband to the fact that he forgot his anger against his mother and the fight for his native city resumed, where he died after the rescue Kalydons. A variant of the myth is that thereupon his mother Althaea and Cleopatra hanged wife, the hero beweinenden women but were transformed into birds the others. However, the name Alcyone likely to be close to a legend, was transformed after Cleopatra herself. According to another version, she mourned so long, until she died. Probably Cleopatra is depicted on a red-figure vase and other works of art that show the subject of Meleager 's death.
