Cover

The Faltcover consists of a down of dark running from top to the Bright Green, the album title above and below the curved Yes logo. On the back at photos of the five band members and to complement the picture of Eddie Offord, who has produced the third album in a row Yes find. The whole was supplemented by another Yes logo with outline, a list of the band members with instruments and other album information. Inside can be found a Roger Dean- image, a high plateau from a sea with islands, a ship and a building on an island. On all sides, the water flows down steeply falling. The viewer itself is at a remote mountain, which is connected to the plateau only by a bridge. The envelope of the LP is to support the texts. Internationally, there are virtually no differences; only the 1974 album published in Czechoslovakia, the title was translated as Na seed kraji útesu.

Review

Only three songs found on this album. The title track, with over 18 minutes has some features of a sonata and claimed the first side of the LP. It includes several musical themes that are repeated and varied throughout the piece. The starting point is Hermann Hesse's Siddhartha story. The second page begins with And You And I, this piece is quiet and is dominated by the acoustic guitar. The end of the album is the rocking and fast piece Siberian Khatru. All three songs will be reflected in the next 35 years alternately or together on stage. Siberian Khatru is probably the most played opening titles of Yes.

The album Close to the Edge is one of the best and most important albums of progressive rock. Many progressive rock bands from the 1970s until today have been influenced by him.
