Clove hitch

The Webeleinenstek or clove hitch is a knot for attaching a rope to an object. The Webeleinenstek hardly jammed even at higher load, but can roll with unidirectional load or loosen.

The Webeleinenstek can be inserted, placed or thrown; he is one of the few nodes that are suitable for the middle of a rope when the ends ( nautical: rope ) are not free.

History

The ratlines are original lines that were stretched between the shrouds of a ship to enhance stability. On larger sailboats, the ratlines were used as rope ladders to allow the boarding ( boarding ) of the mast and the rigging. It was only at the inner shrouds a Webeleinenstek, but lying on the outside is used a splice in order to avoid slipping.

Application

Mooring at the stake

In the recreational marine environment of Webeleinenstek is used for mooring of piles. He remains firmly at the stake and does not slide down, not even in rough seas or high and low tide. Because of the one-sided strain the loose end must always be secured with a half hitch.

Unsecured Webeleinenstek

Secured to base with half strike

Secured with two half hitches around the rope

Insert the stake

The same Webeleinenstek is used to attach the parachute lines with the strap ring. However, this is associated with a half-turn "down". Two half hitches on the "top" plus an additional zig- zag seam to the end secure the knot.

At the bollard is the Webeleinenstek "thrown". It successively two half hitches are thrown around the bollard. Already by the first throw of the first half shock can be the ship by the friction of the rope hold even with heavy train on bollard. The second half strike then fixed the node. Because of the one-sided strain the loose end must always be secured with a half hitch.

Fenderknoten ( Webeleinenstek on panties)

For attaching fenders to the railing of the Webeleinenstek is used to slip. First, the Fenderleine is placed around the rail and set the correct height for the landing of the fender. The line is completely out to the railing and complements for half a beat. The second half strike is put on panties. This can change the position of the Fender anytime soon a sailing crew during docking maneuvers. Since the turn Webeleinenstek at sea by or change the direction of pull can solve, it is often secured with a half hitch with the loop.

An alternative to this would be the Anbindeknoten.

Clove hitch to the snap hook

The Webeleinenstek is called by climbers and mountaineers as well as fire and rescue services clove hitch and used as a closing node.

It is used with a locking carabiner on the stand for self- assurance. The length of the safety rope can thus - without the node to solve (and therefore taking them out of the safety chain ) - easily adjusted. The node moves to under load and holds.

Clove hitch for telephone cables

Telephone cables can thus be attached to mast tops. The lines are wrapped without a kink around the mast. To attach a cable in the middle of the clove hitch can also be put twice. Thereby, it is unnecessary to completely handle and durchzuschlaufen the end.

Webeleinenstek in macrame

The Webleinenstek is one of several base nodes in the knotting when macrame.

Alternatives

  • For fixing of bars or long objects, the carpenter node is at half stroke.
  • For fixing of the supporting cable of a cable-stayed bridge is looping the rope several times around the tree and secures the end.
  • At the anchor shank is used to Roringstek.
  • To permanently tying a bag suitable the Würgeknoten. It is a fixed, but can hardly be solved.

Modifications

  • One winding on one side of the double half hitch, gives the Stopperstek.
  • Subtracting the end again under the opposite half hitch by which Würgeknoten created (also called Konstriktorknoten ).
