The Col de Granon, locally also called Col du Granon, is a mountain pass in the French Alps. The pass is situated at an altitude of 2413 meters in the Hautes -Alpes. According to other data, however the pass, only a height of 2404 meters. Over the pass the valleys of the rivers Guisane and Clarée are connected.

Route

On the pass lead two routes. From the south the Department 234T road leads to the top. This has its starting point in Saint- Chaffrey at an altitude of 1364 meters. At a length of 11.5 kilometers, the road leads with an average gradient of nine percent on the pass. From the East leads a dirt military road to its summit. Here is the starting point of Val -des- Prés and the length is 15.3 km with almost seven percent slope.

Tour de France

In 1986, a summit finish of the Tour de France was held at the pass. The route with an assessment of the category HC of Saint- Chaffrey mastered the Spaniard Eduardo Chozas first. This arrival was long the highest stage finish of the Tour de France, until it was replaced in 2011 by the Col du Galibier.
