Colle delle Finestre

Colle delle Finestre is the name of two mountain passes in the Alps in the Italian region of Piedmont.

Colle delle Finestre 2178 m, Cottian Alps

The better known pass of that name is in the nature reserve of the Parco naturale Orsiera - Rocciavrè and connects at an altitude of 2178 m the Susa Valley with the Chisone (depot at Fenestrelle ). The track is ballasted to a large extent. South of the vertex is the Osteinstieg the Assietta mountain route. Closed in winter is from November 1 to May 31.

The Colle delle Finestre gained in the cycling world fame when then the Giro d' Italia on the penultimate day of racing crossed the pass in 2005. The Italian television produced the television pictures of the event partially in black and white to remember the time Fausto Coppi, as such non- paved roads were still normal.

2011 was the Colle delle Finestre into the program of the Giro d' Italia, as in 2005 on the penultimate day of racing.

Colle delle Finestre 2474 m, Maritime Alps

The eponymous mountain pass in the Alps, the fortified village in the Val Entracque gesso with the village of St. Martin Vesubie in the Vallon de la Madone de Fenestre. Since 1947, the Franco- Italian border is on the pass; previously belonged (as well as the Tenda Pass ), the southern end of the valley to Italy. Today's trail, which connects the Rifugio Soria Ellena with the Refuge Madone de Fenestre runs largely on a scale under Mussolini military road. From the same period a barracks and bunkers protecting originate near the pass.
