Comarnic

Azuga is a town in Prahova County in the Great Wallachia in Romania.

Location

Azuga is located at the junction of the East in the Southern Carpathians in the valley of the river Prahova. The county seat Ploieşti is situated about 45 km south-east.

History

Azuga probably originated in the 15th century and was first mentioned in 1532. The place has long been small and secluded; he was alternately various Wallachian noble families. The inhabitants occupied themselves mainly with livestock and forestry. 1879, the railway from Ploiesti was taken by the Prahova Valley to Kronstadt in operation, thus creating the conditions for a rapid development of the economy and tourism. 1916 found in the vicinity of the place fighting between German and Austria - Hungarian troops on the one hand and Romanian associations rather than the other. 1968 Azuga was declared a city. The main economic activities are the construction industry, tourism and forestry. There is also a furniture factory and a foundry.

Population

As of the 2002 census, 13,378 residents were registered in Azuga, including 13,366 Romanians.

Traffic

The leading through Comarnic railway Ploiesti - Brasov is now part of the main train from Bucharest to Oradea. On the territory of the city are two railway stations, Azuga and Posada. In Azuga including high-speed trains in Posada only local trains. There are regular bus services, including by Campina and Sinaia. Through the city runs the European Route 60
