Conor Maguire

Conor Alexander Maguire ( born December 16, 1889 in Cong, † September 26, 1971 in Dublin) was an Irish lawyer and politician Fianna Fáil.

Career

Maguire was first elected in the parliamentary elections in February 1932 as Member of Parliament for the constituency of the National University of Ireland in the Irish House of Commons. In the elections in January 1933, he was re-elected.

In March 1932 he was appointed Attorney General of the Irish Free State. In November 1936 he gave up the office and his political mandate to follow his appointment as Judge of the High Court. In 1946 he was appointed Chief Justice of Ireland, the President of the Supreme Court, appointed. In this capacity he remained until 1961. From September 27 1965 to 20 January 1971 he was a judge at the European Court of Human Rights.
