Coop Himmelb (l) au (actually Coop Himmelb ( l) au, Wolf D. Prix / W. Dreibholz & Partner ZT GmbH) is an international, avant-garde architecture firm.

History

Coop Himmelb (l) au was founded in 1968 by Wolf D. Prix, Helmut Swiczinsky and Michael Holzer in Vienna and has since been working in the fields of architecture, urban planning, design and art. 1988 another studio in Los Angeles was opened. Further project offices are located in Frankfurt am Main and Paris. Coop Himmelb ( l) au, currently employs 150 people from 19 nations.

The Architecture Studio Coop Himmelb (l) au is led by Wolf D. Prix, Harald Krieger, Karolin Schmidbaur and project partners. The project partners include Michael Beckert, Lucy Giencke, Andrea Graser, Helmut Holleis, Markus Pillhofer, Markus Prossnigg, Wolfgang enough, Frank and Michael Stepper people. Following the retirement of Michael Holzer in 1971 and Helmut Swiczinsky withdrawal from operations in 2001, followed by his final retirement in 2006, directs Wolf D. Prix, the studio as Design Principal / CEO. From 2000 to 2011 was Wolfdieter Dreibholz as managing director and partner of Coop Himmelb (l) au active. Harald Krieger has been a partner in 2003 and managing director of Coop Himmelb ( l) au Europe GmbH in Frankfurt am Main. In 2011, he took over also as CFO financial leadership of the studio. Karolin Schmidbaur 1996 's business partner and is currently Design and Managing Partner of Coop Himmelb ( l) au, Vienna (since 2009) and Director of the studio in Los Angeles ( since 2003).

Work of the group were in 1988 in the exhibition Deconstructivist Architecture at the Museum of Modern Art, curated by Philip Johnson and Mark Wigley. The meant that Coop Himmelb (l) au was henceforth counted among the group of deconstructivist architect. The office itself has never officially included in this group. However, certain work practices, such as the collage, and the architectural language have similarities with other architects that direction.

World-renowned institutions such as the Getty Foundation in Los Angeles, the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) in Vienna and the Centre Pompidou show works by Coop Himmelb (l) au in their permanent collections. In 1996, Coop Himmelb ( l) au, as the representative of Austria to the 6th International Architecture Biennale in Venice was invited. Since then, the office is represented there regularly and has projects such as the Musée des Confluences in Lyon and the Opera House Guangzhou presented. Lyon's Musée des Confluences was also presented from 2002 to 2003 at the Latent Utopias exhibition in Graz. Also in the Aedes East Gallery in Berlin Coop Himmelb (l) au was present several times, such as in the exhibitions skyline 1985, The Vienna Trilogy One Cinema 1998 with an exhibition on the competition for the BMW experience and delivery center in 2002. In same year was Coop Himmelb ( l) au, BMW Welt with the projects and a design for the new World Trade Center at the 8th Architecture Biennale in Venice present. In the year 2007/2008 the office was the subject of the exhibition Coop Himmelb ( l) au. Beyond the Blue of the MAK in Vienna. On the 11th Architecture Biennale in Venice Coop Himmelb (l) au was represented by two contributions: Astro Balloon 1969 Revisited - Feedback Space in the Arsenale and Brain City Lab in the Italian Pavilion. 2009, the exhibition was Coop Himmelb ( l) au. Beyond the Blue at the Wexner Center for the Arts to see Columbus ( Ohio).

Coop Himmelb (l) au was responsible for the design of several exhibitions, such as Paradise Cage: Kiki Smith and Coop Himmelb (l) au, which was shown in 1996 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Among the most famous part of the exhibition Rudi Gernreich: Fashion will go out of fashion in 2000 for the Styrian Autumn in Graz, which was shown later in Philadelphia.
