Cornelis Bloemaert

Cornelis Bloemaert Abrahamszoon (also Bloemaert II, * to 1603 in Utrecht, † September 1692 in Rome) was a Dutch painter and engraver.

Life

Bloemaert in Utrecht came from a family of artists. He was born as the second child from the second marriage of the painter Abraham Bloemaert and was the grandson of the sculptor Cornelis Bloemaert ( Cornelis Bloemaert I). He learned painting from his father, and probably also with Gerard van Honthorst, and copper engraving by Crispin de Passe the Elder. After a stint from 1630 to 1633 in Paris, he moved to Rome, where he worked with Joachim von Sandrart. He stabbed numerous works of Giustiniani collection in copper, the sculptures of the collection, especially after Sandrart drawings.

From his paintings, none has yet been identified, but a number of signed engravings. As a final sheet known to the 1693 dated copper engraving St. John is considered to Christ pointing after a painting by Ciro Ferri.

He was buried Fratte in Rome in the church of Sant'Andrea delle on September 28, 1692.
