Coronel Fabriciano is a city in the metropolitan region of Vale do Aço (Valley of the steel ) in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. It is 13 km away from Ipatinga and 198 km from Belo Horizonte.

In 2010, about 104,000 people lived in an area of ​​221.05 km ². The per capita income in 2004 was R $ 3,031.

Coronel Fabriciano lies in the area of the Serra dos Cocais. The church Igreja Matriz de São Sebastião is an important historical building in the city.

History

From Leopoldina moved to 1800 Francisco Franco Rodrigues here. He settled in this uninhabited area and is now regarded as a city founder and first inhabitants of the place. During the 19th century several other families moved into the area and established farms. It developed first settlement structures.
