Coupar Angus

Coupar Angus ( Gaelic: Cubar Aonghais ) is a village in the Scottish Unitary Authority Perth and Kinross and traditional Scottish county of Perthshire. It is about 20 km north-east of Perth and 19 km north-west of Dundee located. In 2001, Coupar Angus recorded 2190 inhabitants. This varies the population since 1861 with 1943 inhabitants stable at around 2000 inhabitants mark.

History

Near the present Coupar Angus a Cistercian monastery was founded in the mid-12th century by King Malcolm IV. The developing town of Coupar Angus was located on a creek, which flows a few hundred meters north of the Isla. This was the border between the counties of Angus and Perthshire. Since the older part of the town was on the east bank, and thus belonged to Angus, the town received its present name. There a customs office was established for the movement of goods in 1702.
