Cowboys From Hell is the fifth album by the American thrash metal band Pantera. The album was released on 24 July 1990 via Atlantic Records. The album was produced by Terry Date.
Although it is the fifth album of the band, Cowboys From Hell by many fans is considered the "official" debut of the band. In the four previous albums, the band still glam metal, without thereby achieve significant success. The announcement of the band, making a radical change of course in terms of music and image, initially caused laughter in the metal scene. When the album was released then the amazement was great.
Cowboys From Hell was the first commercially successful album by Pantera. The album reached number 23 of " Billboard Heatseekers Charts ". With this album, Pantera brought fresh wind into the thrash metal scene and Pantera were one of the pioneers of the so -called " Neo - Thrash ". The guitar solo of the song Cemetery Gates was chosen by readers of the magazine " Guitar World " at number 35 of the 100 best guitar solos of all time.
The " Guitar World" magazine Cowboys From Hell chose number 11 of the top 100 guitar albums of all time. The title song is used for the PlayStation 2 game " Guitar Hero ".
