Far Beyond Driven is the seventh album by the American thrash metal band Pantera. The album was released on March 22, 1994 via East West Records. Overall, the album sold in the U.S. over a million copies and was certified platinum.

Style

Far Beyond Driven is one of the most extreme albums ever reached number one in the U.S. album charts. The song material is even harder and more brutal than on the two previous albums, the song structures are more complex part. The album contains only Planet Caravan with one unlike the rest of the album extremely quiet Black Sabbath cover version which was released as a single.

Formation

The album was produced by Terry Date at the Dallas Sound Lab, Irving, Texas. The band got to a free hand by the record company.

" The record company has only said: Here is your check - now take good times, and we let ourselves be surprised then. This is the ideal situation -. Nobody there who purely talks to you in any form "

The band stated that they had added reason why such a heavy album, because you would not meet the " mass appeal ". Also one had gone unprepared into the studio and have worked out the songs only there. Drummer Vinnie Paul worked as co- producer. After the release the album in the United States reached number one on the Billboard charts. The single Planet Caravan reached number 26 in the UK and number 21 in the U.S. mainstream rock charts. The second, unequal harder I'm Broken single reached number 19 on the UK Singles Charts.

Reception

In the German Rock Hard magazine called Götz Kühnemund Far Beyond Driven Pantera not only " technically most ambitious, but also by far the boldest album " that " offend " some listeners would. He described the panel as the hardest disc since Slayers Reign in Blood, and gave her nine out of ten. Eduardo Rivadavia of Allmusic awarded three stars out of five. Except for the " well-chosen " Single I'm Broken lacked the rest of the songs on the " eisenfäustigen discipline and controlled power" of previous albums. The plate did not meet the hype around it, but outweighed their weight in platinum at the bank.

The first edition of the album was released with a cover showing a drill in a human anus. This was quickly withdrawn and replaced by an image of a skull driven into a drill.
