Cox's Bazar District

The district Cox's Bazar ( Bengali: কক্সবাজার জেলা, Kaksabājār Jela ) is an administrative unit in southeastern Bangladesh, which is within the Division Chittagong. Seat of the district administration, the city Cox 's Bazar.

The 2491.86 km ² large district is bordered to the north by the district of Chittagong, on the east by Bandarban, the river Naf and the province of Rakhine State in Myanmar. In the south and west lies the Bay of Bengal.

Cox 's Bazar was created in 1854 as an administrative subunit. Since 1984 it is an independent administrative district, which is divided administratively into seven so-called Upazilas: Cox 's Bazar Sadar, Chakoria, Maheshkhali, Teknaf, Ramu, Kutubdia and Ukhia. Within this administrative subdivision, there are three self-governing cities ( municipalities ), 67 Union Parishads (village councils) and 975 villages.
