Craon family

Craon is a family of the French nobility, which descended from the Counts of Nevers in the house Monceaux.

History

In addition to the eponymous rule Craon later in Mayenne, the family had at times the viscounty Châteaudun and the Vidame de Laonnois. The best known members of the family is Robert de Craon († 1147 ), the second Grand Master of the Knights Templar. The house Craon died from the late 15th century. Among his descendants in the female line include the later princes of Beauvau - Craon out of the house Beauveau.
