John I, Count of Dreux

John I (* 1215, † 1248/49 in Nicosia ) was a Count of Dreux and Braine. He was a son of Count Robert III. of Dreux and his wife AENOR de Saint- Valéry.

Johann married in April 1240 Marie de Bourbon († August 24, 1274 ), a daughter of Sire Archambault VIII of Bourbon. Their children were:

  • Robert IV (* 1241, † November 12, 1282 ), Count of Dreux and Braine
  • Yolande (* 1243, † 1274) ∞ Amaury II de Craon († 1269 ) (House Craon )
  • ∞ John II of Trie, Count of Dammartin ( like 1302 in the Battle of the Spurs )

Johann was during a Hoftages in Saumur on June 24, 1241 together with the Prince Alfonso of Poitiers by King Louis IX. beaten by France knighted. Together with his brother- Archambault IX. of Bourbon, he accompanied the King on the sixth Crusade. Both died during the winter of the army in Cyprus from 1248 to 1249, respectively. Johanns heart was buried in the Abbey of Saint- Yved in Braine.
