Saint-Yved de Braine

The monastery of Saint- Yved in Braine and in particular the monastery church was the necropolis of the Counts of Dreux. The church was equipped with the relics of saints Yved and consecrated in the 9th century. 1130 was the Bishop of Soissons abbey the Premonstratensians. Braine was already at the time of the Merovingian and Capetian a popular residence. Under the Capetians was the place owned by a branch line of the house of Dreux.

The monastery church was built on behalf of Agnès de Baude Apartments, wife of Robert I of Dreux, according to plans by André de Baudement. Noteworthy is the tympanum of the main portal, which has been preserved (on the back of the current facade). The three-story nave was shortened by four zygomatic arches, the central tower reaches 33 meters in height. The portal sculptures are now in the Museum of Soissons.

The relics of the saints and the Holy Yved Victrice de Rouen were brought to the Cathedral of Rouen in the 19th century. The church also contained until the Revolution a number of graves, which were provided with base plates made ​​of enamelled copper, specimens are now in the collection Gaignières the Bodleian Library in Oxford. After the Revolution, the abbey was gradually destroyed.
