Crass Records

Crass Records is a founded in 1979 by the British anarcho- punk band Crass record label.

History

Prior to founding Crass Penny Rimbaud and Gee Vaucher published their creative work on their own label Exitstencil Press. After it had come between the newly formed band Crass and their record label Small Wonder Records to several conflicts, the band decided in 1978 to start his own label. The disputes between the band and Small Wonder Records were to produce by the refusal of an Irish pressing plant the debut album of the band, as the song Asylum included profanity, triggered.

The first, not published under the name Crass publication of the label was the single You Can Be You by Honey Bane. More often politically similar to Crass oriented artists like Flux of Pink Indians, MDC, Captain Sensible, The Cravats, Conflict, KUKL ( including the Björk belonged ) or Poison Girls released their work on the label.

In addition to albums and singles of the above- mentioned bands also published three editions of Bullshit Detector compilation, were collected on the demo recordings that were sent the band. Crass Records maintained a corporate identity: The appearing on the label albums were mostly favorable, on many Penny Rimbaud acted as producer and John Loder as a sound engineer. Most of the publications have been added to the Southern Studios, the album design Gee Vaucher was responsible.

The catalog numbers of the albums released were seen as a countdown to the year 1984 ( for example, " 521 984 " meant " five years until 1984 " ), the year in which the band had already decided at its inception to dissolve. Crass chose the year 1984 because of the novel 1984 by George Orwell.

In 1982, some of the members of Crass label Corpus Christi Records, on which the works of artists who did not fit into the anarchist role image of Crass Records, were released.
