Criciúma Esporte Clube

The Criciúma Esporte Clube, usually only briefly mentioned Criciúma, is a football club from the city Criciúma in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. The biggest success of the association, which counts next to Figueirense FC, ​​FC Avaí Joinville EC and the four most important clubs of the state, is the victory in the Brazilian Cup competition of 1991.

History

The club traces back its origins to the 1947 founded Comerciário Esporte Clube, which was dissolved in the 1960s due to financial problems. The club was established in 1976 founded by some former members of Comerciário again, but in 1978 the name was changed to Criciúma EC. Its colors, black and yellow, the club received in 1984.

In the cup competition which at the time coached by Luiz Felipe Scolari Tiger met the renowned club Gremio. In the final first leg in Porto Alegre Vilmar succeeded after only 15 minutes, the guide was able to offset the Grêmio until shortly before the end. The success so far only entitled to participate in the Copa Libertadores, where Criciúma 1992 in the first round before the Sao Paulo and two representatives of the Bolivian group winner was. Since then, the club had a rather unsettled fate. 2005 saw the descent into the third-class Série C. The association has since been able to return to the second division for two years again, but rose in 2008 from again. After re- return to the Série B in 2011, the club failed to qualify in the 2012 season surprisingly in second place for the Series A.

Stadium

Criciúma plays its home games in the 1955 -built, also Majestoso called Estádio Heriberto sleeve, which offers 28,749 spectators. It is named after a former governor of Santa Catarina, which donated the floodlights.

The stadium was expanded after the Cup victory in 1991 of 15,000 spectators to a capacity of 25,000 spectators, so that it complied with the guidelines for games in the Copa Libertadores. Record attendance was 31,123 spectators on August 6, 1995 in a game against Chapecoense, the Criciúma won 1-0 and thus the state championship that year secured.
