Crœttwiller

Crœttwiller ( German Kröttweiler ) is a municipality with 172 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in Alsace region of France.

Economy and infrastructure

The Rue d' Eberbach is the main road; it forms the core of the village street. It branches from the village center from the department of road D 34. The municipal area before main activity is agriculture.

Crœttwiller has a joint fire department with Trimbach.

History

The land belonged to the time of the Empress Adelaide (Adelaide ). In the 13th and in the 14th century Crœttwiller belonged to the family of Fleckenstein. The first known record comes from the year 1347 under the name " Kretenwilre ". Over the centuries, the village changed hands several times his name: Greitwiller, Krötwiller, Groetwiller and Kreperer. The beginning of the modern place- name with a "C" is exceptional for a Germanic place names.
