Arrondissement of Wissembourg

The arrondissement of Wissembourg is an administrative district in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region of France.

History

On 4 March 1790, founded with the establishment of the department of Bas- Rhin, a " district Wissembourg " which coincided essentially with the present arrondissement. The district was transferred to the establishment of the Arrondissements on February 17, 1800 the new district of Wissembourg.

Since May 18, 1871, the name of the area circle White Castle in the district of Bas-Rhin in Alsace-Lorraine was Reichsland. The group comprised 603 km ² and at that time had 58 270 inhabitants in 1885. District director in this period was from 1 February 1872 to November 1886 by Joseph Stichaner.

The arrondissement lived during the reintegration of Alsace to France on 28 June 1919 ( Treaty of Versailles) again.

Geography

The district is bordered to the north by Germany with the former government district of Rheinhessen- Pfalz, Germany to the east also to the administrative district of Karlsruhe in the south and west by the district Haguenau.
