Arrondissement of Altkirch

The Altkirch Arrondissement is an administrative district in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region of France.

History

On March 4, 1790, established a " district Altkirch " with the establishment of the department of Haut-Rhin, who is also the area now arrondissements Mulhouse included at the time with. On February 17, 1800 from the district was established.

1857 was the name and management for the district over to Mulhouse.

Since May 18, 1871, the area lived as a circle Altkirch in the district of Haut-Rhin of the Empire State Alsace-Lorraine again. The group comprised 654 km ² at that time and had 51.695 inhabitants in 1885.

As part of the reintegration of Alsace to France on 28 June 1919 ( Treaty of Versailles), it was back to the district Altkirch.

Geography

The district is bordered to the north by the district Thann, in the north and east by the district Mulhouse, on the south by the Swiss cantons of Solothurn, Basel-Landschaft and law and to the west by the Belfort Arrondissement in the department of Territoire de Belfort.
