Arrondissement of Colmar

The arrondissement of Colmar is an administrative district in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region of France.

History

On March 4, 1790, established a " district Colmar " with the establishment of the department of Haut-Rhin, who is also the area of ​​today Arrondissemets Ribeauvillé and Guebwiller involved at the time with. On February 17, 1800 from the district was established.

Since May 18, 1871, the present territory belonged to a circle Colmar in the district of Upper Alsace to the kingdom land Alsace-Lorraine. The group comprised 664 km ² and at that time had 81 438 inhabitants in 1885.

As part of the reintegration of Alsace to France on 28 June 1919 ( Treaty of Versailles), the Arrondissement of Colmar was revived in two ways. It was a district " Colmar -Ville " and a district " Colmar- Campagne " set up.

1934 was recombined into a district.

Geography

The district is bordered to the north by the district Ribeauvillé and the district Sélestat - Erstein in the department of Bas- Rhin, Germany to the east with the government district of Freiburg (Baden- Württemberg), to the south by the district Guebwiller and to the west by the arrondissements Epinal and Saint -Dié -des- Vosges in the Vosges department (Lorraine ).
