Arrondissement of Mulhouse

The district Mulhouse [ myluz ] ( German Mulhouse, alsatian Milhüüse ) is an administrative district in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region of France.

History

On March 4, 1790, established a " district Altkirch " with the creation of the department of Haut-Rhin, which also included the area now Arrondissemets Mulhouse at that time. On February 17, 1800, became part of the newly established arrondissements Altkirch. It was not until 1857 from what was then the arrondissement Arrondissement Altkirch Mulhouse (Mulhouse ).

Since May 18, 1871, the present territory belonged to a circle Mulhouse in the district of Upper Alsace to the kingdom land Alsace-Lorraine in the new German Empire. The group comprised 626 km ², and had then (1885 ) 144 046 inhabitants.

After the First World War was acquired as part of the integration of Alsace to France on 28 June 1919, the administrative structure and the (new ) Arrondissement Mulhouse furnished.

Geography

The district is bordered to the north by the district Guebwiller, on the east by the Federal Republic of Germany with the administrative district of Freiburg (Baden- Württemberg), in the south of Switzerland, with the cantons of Basel-Stadt, Basel-Landschaft and Solothurn, on the southwest by the District Altkirch and to the west by the district Thann.
