Arrondissement of Guebwiller

The district Guebwiller is an administrative district in the French department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region.

History

On 4 March 1790, also set up a " district Colmar " with the establishment of the department of Haut-Rhin, who is also the area now Arrondissemets Guebwiller involved at the time with. On February 17, 1800, became part of the newly established arrondissement of Colmar.

Since May 18, 1871, the present territory belonged to a circle Gebweiler in the district of Upper Alsace to the kingdom land Alsace-Lorraine. The group comprised 583 km ² and at that time had 63,104 inhabitants in 1885.

As part of the reintegration of Alsace to France on 28 June 1919 ( Treaty of Versailles), the administrative structure was adopted and established the district Guebwiller.

Geography

The district is bordered to the north by the arrondissement of Colmar, Germany to the east with the government district of Freiburg, in the south of the arrondissement Mulhouse and Thann.
