Csákvár

Csákvár [ tʃa ː kva ː r] ( German: Tschakwar ) is a large village in the small area Bicske, which is in Fejér county in the North West of Hungary.

Geographical location

The town lies on the southern slope of Vértes where a reserve is established for rare mountain plants. In the Esterházy cave on the hill above Csákvár prehistoric animal bones and remains of a Urpferdes from the period have been found in front of about 10 million years ago.

Are located in the surrounding rocky hilltops with castle ruins on their heights. The geological- botanical trail between Csákvár and Gánt leads over 3-4 km over the mountain and through the valley Haraszt colic. In Gánt bauxite is mined. In nearby Vérteskozma old farmhouses can be visited.

History

The ancient name of the place was probably Floriana. It lay on the Roman road to Aquincum in the lower Pannonia and was the seat of Praefectus classis Histricae, a section commander of the Roman fleet on the Pannonian Danube.
