The monastery of Culross (En: Culross Abbey ) is a former Cistercian monastery in Scotland. It is located in Culross in Fife.

History

The monastery was founded in 1217 by Maol Choluim I, the Lord of Fife. Abbey Culross was a daughter of founding monastery Kinloss, a subsidiary of Melrose Abbey, which in turn was a daughter house of Clairvaux Abbey Primary. Culross was the 573rd medieval Cistercian abbey monk. The Abbey was drafted in 1589. The facility is managed by Historic Scotland.

Buildings and plant

The conditioning of the 13th century corresponded to the Order ordinary substantially. In the late 15th century the Konversenbereich and the nave of the church were abandoned. In 1633, the choir became the parish church, while the subsequent building fell into disrepair. The north transept was transformed in 1642 into a grave laying for Sir George Bruce. The abbey was restored in 1823 and 1905.
