Dadivank

Dadiwank (Armenian Դադիվանք, also Խութավանք, Chotawank or Khutavank, " monastery on the hill" ) is an Armenian monastery, which is located in the region of Nagorno Karabakh on a wooded location. The monastery is located 1.5 kilometers north of the river Tartar in the Nagorno-Karabakh province Schahumjan, just outside the former borders of the Nagorno Karabakh Autonomous Region and approximately 50 line kilometers north-west of Stepanakert. The church of this monastery was built in 1214.

History

According to legend, the saint Thaddeus, a Christian martyr was buried in the walls of the monastery, said to have been founded at the end of the 1st century by one of the disciples of the apostle Judas Iscariot. Was first documented the monastery in the 9th century.

In 1994 the monastery was rededicated; it acts at the time as a monastery of the Diocese of Artsakh Armenian Apostolic Church.

Monastery complex

The complex consists of the main church of the Holy Mother of God, a chapel and other outbuildings.
