Dafnousia

Dafnousia (Greek Δαφνούσια (n. pl. ), Also Dafnoussia ) from 1997 to 2010, a municipality in the Greek prefecture of Fthiotida in central Greece. It was formed in 1997 from three rural towns, and went in 2011 as a district in the new church at Locri. The community was named after Daphnous, the ancient name of Agios Konstantinos.

Location

The municipality is part of the historic landscape Locris. It is located on the coast of Central Greek mainland opposite the island of Euboea (Evia ). In the West Dafnousia bordered on Agios Konstantinos, on the southwest by Elatia, to the south Atalandi. In the north and east was the coast of the northern Gulf of Evia, in the municipality belonging to Cape Arkitsa projects, the municipal boundary.

Character

History

Livanates been inhabited since early times. The Pyrgos -called hill in Livanates seems to have originated from repeated embankments to protect against sieges. Today's Arkitsa was built from 1750 by newcomers from the surrounding area, but also from the Peloponnese. In 1810 there were about thirty houses. At this time, let Queen Amalia built the first school and the church of Agios Georgios. 1894, the town was destroyed by an earthquake, then rebuilt.

Metamorphosis Church at Livanates

Situated in a lovely green area about 4 km from Livantes is the Metamorphosis Monastery. Formerly a monastery, it was converted in 1977 into a nunnery.
