Dailuaine distillery

Dailuaine is a whiskey distillery in Charlestown of Aberlour, Speyside, Scotland.

History

The distillery was founded in 1851 by William Mackenzie. When he died in 1865, his widow leased the distillery to James Fleming, a banker from Aberlour. This founded in 1879 together with the son of William Mackenzie, the company Mackenzie & Company.

1884 Dailuaine was renovated and expanded. At this time, she was one of the largest distilleries in the Highlands. Charles Chree Doig built in 1889, the first pagoda in Scotland Dailuaine.

In 1960, the distillery was completely renovated. The number of stills was increased from four to six. A Saladin Box replaced the Malting Floors. Since 1983, the malt is purchased from foreign maltings.

1987 Dailuaine was acquired by United Distillers (UD).

Production

The water belonging to the Speyside distillery comes from Balliemullich and Green Burn. The malt is from United Distillers Maltings in Roseisle, Muir of Ord ( Glen Ord ) and Burghead related. The distillery has a mash tun ( mash do ) ( 11.5 t) of stainless steel fermentation tanks and eight (wash backs) ( per 55,000 liters ) of larch wood. Is distilled into three coarse blisters (wash stills ) ( per 18,700 liters) and three fine blisters ( spirit stills ) ( per 20,500 l), which are heated by steam.

Samples

Only about two percent of the production of Dailuaine go as single malt in the sale. These are stored exclusively in sherry butts, while used for blending whiskey is stored in former bourbon barrels.

As the original filling was published in 1991 a 16 -year-old Dailuaine in the "Flora & Fauna Series." Since 1997 there is this as bottling at cask strength.
