Daniel Akerson

Daniel Akerson ( born October 21, 1948 in California) is an American manager.

Life

Akerson grew up in Mankato, Minnesota. From 1970 to 1975 he worked as a naval officer. He studied engineering at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland and the London School of Economics.

After studying Akerson worked from 1983 for the company MCI Communications. In 1993 he moved to the U.S. semiconductor manufacturer General Instrument, where he was followed by Donald Rumsfeld. 1996 Akerson was appointed as CEO of the company Nextel. From 1996 he was employed at Next Link Communications (later renamed XO Communications ). In 2003 he joined the company Carlyle Group.

Akerson was to succeed Edward Whitacre from 1 September 2010 and CEO since 1 January 2011 Chairman of the U.S. company General Motors. In January 2014 Mary Barra Akersons stepped to follow.

Akerson is married and has three children. He lives with his family in McLean, Virginia.
