Daniel B. St. John

Daniel Bennett St. John ( born October 8, 1808 in Sharon, Connecticut, † February 18, 1890 in New York City ) was an American politician. Between 1847 and 1849 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Daniel Bennett St. John was born about four years before the outbreak of the British - American War in Sharon and grew up there. After that he went commercial transactions after 1831 and real estate transactions in Monticello. In 1840 he sat in the New York State Assembly.

Politically he belonged at that time to the Whig party. In the congressional elections of 1846 for the 30th Congress St. John in the ninth electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Archibald C. Niven on March 4, 1847. He retired after March 3, 1849 from the Congress.

After his conference time he moved to Newburgh. It was started in 1860 as a delegate to the Constitutional Union National Convention in part. In 1860 he ran unsuccessfully as a Democrat for the 37th Congress. He sat then in 1875 in the Senate from New York. The following year he participated as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in St. Louis. St. John was Chief Registrar at the New York State Banking Department. He died on February 18, 1890 in New York City and was buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Newburgh.
