Daniel Márcio Fernandes ( born September 25, 1983 in Edmonton, Alberta, called Dani ) is a Portuguese- Canadian footballer. He is since January 2012 FC Twente Enschede in the Dutch Eredivisie under contract, but is currently on loan to Greece OFI Crete.

Career

Association

Fernandes started playing as a goalkeeper in the second team of FC Porto. After a short time at Celta de Vigo, where he also belonged to the squad of the second team, he came up with 19 years in the 2003/04 season to the then second division side SSV Jahn Regensburg; even here he should be in the second team, which played in the Bavarian League, used. After the goalkeeper position was there but with the players Seißenberger Klaus and Andreas Neumeier already occupied, it was no use. Then Fernandes changed thanks to some contacts to Greece for PAOK Thessaloniki. Initially hired on a trial basis, recognized the then coach Angelos Anastasiadis his talent and helped him to a permanent contract.

In 2005, Fernandes has been promoted by new coach Giorgos Kostikos number 1. Although media and fans were surprised, soon became apparent that this was a right decision. By in almost all games - both league and in the Greek Cup - stood between the posts, he could help to ensure that the 2005/06 season was not totally disappointing. PAOK Thessaloniki managed in spite of many problems within and outside the square, to qualify for the UEFA Cup 2006/ 07.

In the summer of 2006 there were rumors that Fernandes would be on the wish list of several clubs such as Chelsea or Manchester United. Fernandes, however, said that he was very satisfied with his career at PAOK Thessaloniki. He extended his contract until 2008.

For the season 2008/09, Fernandes moved to the Bundesliga for VfL Bochum. Early in his time he was here Bochum goalkeeper before he was ousted in May 2009 by Philip army car. In September 2009, Fernandes was eventually downgraded from interim coach Frank Heinemann for the number 4.

On 18 January 2010 Fernandes was awarded until the end of the season Iraklis Thessaloniki. In the following season played Fernandes on loan at Greek clubs. In June 2011, his contract was terminated with VfL Bochum. He joined then in the Romanian first division side CFR Cluj. In January 2012 he moved to FC Twente Enschede.

In the summer of 2013 he was again awarded to Greece OFI Crete.

National

From 2002 to 2003 Daniel Fernandes completed several games for the Canadian U-20 national team, but opted for the Portuguese national team.

In November 2006, Fernandes was first appointed to the Portuguese national team. He made his debut on 5 June 2007 in a friendly against Kuwait, which ended 1-1 (0-0 ). He came on in the 66th minute for Quim and cashed it in the 88th minute through a direct free-kick from about 26 meters, the gate to compensate. His second international match completed in a friendly against Finland, when he entered the game for goalkeeper Eduardo in the 1-0 (0-0 ) victory in the 60th minute. Fernandes was appointed by national coach Carlos Queiroz as a goalkeeper in the 23 -strong Portuguese squad for the FIFA World Cup 2010, but came there as a substitute goalkeeper to no use.
