Danièle Debernard

Danièle Debernard ( born July 21, 1954 in Aime ) is a French former alpine skier. Debernard was 1971-1978 one of the strongest drivers of the French national ski team. She won two Olympic medals, five World Cup races and was four times French Champion.

Biography

Debernard could be placed in a World Cup race in the top ten in January 1971 for the first time. In the following race she established herself in the slalom in the top group. After all, they won the silver medal in the slalom at the Olympic Winter Games in 1972 in Sapporo behind the US-American Barbara Ann Cochran. Four weeks later, she won the World Cup Finals in Pra Loup within two days of their first two World Cup victories. The 1971/72 season she finished in the slalom rating from on the fifth.

During the next three seasons succeeded Debernard retract good results also in the downhill, but it reached a total of only four positions on the podium. Only in the Olympic 1975/76 season it was back on track. In advance of the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1976, she won the World Cup slalom in Les Gets and the giant slalom in Berchtesgaden. In the Olympic giant slalom she then reached the bronze medal. In the scoring only for the World Cup combination they came in second. From 1971 to 1976 Debernard won four French titles.
