Danis Tanović

Danis Tanović ( born February 20, 1969 in Zenica, Yugoslavia, now Bosnia and Herzegovina) is a Bosnian film director and politician. His wartime drama No Man's Land was in 2002 awarded the Oscar for best foreign language film. Together with Emir Kusturica, he is one of the best-known contemporary directors of the former Yugoslavia.

Biography

After graduation he decided to study as civil engineer and graduated from an education at the conservatory. His training at the Film Academy in Sarajevo was interrupted by the war in Bosnia. During the first two years of the war he was responsible for the film archive of the Bosnian army. In 1994, he went to Belgium, where he continued his studies at the film school INSAS in Brussels. In 1998 he took the Belgian citizenship, and today lives and works in Sarajevo.

In 2001 he received a Golden Palm in Cannes for the screenplay his first- No Man's Land; a year later, the film won an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award, each as Best Foreign Language Film was awarded. No Man's Land, one of the most honored films in the Bosnian and former Yugoslavian film history, received a total of 42 awards around the world. Tanović was also responsible for the soundtrack next screenplay and realization.

In 2002 he contributed an episode to the film 11'09 "01 - September 11 at, filmmakers from around the world represented in their view of the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001 in the United States.

2003 belonged Tanović on the jury for the Golden Palm in Cannes.

In April 2008, he was among the founders of the party Naša stranka. Tanović is one of its three Vice-Presidents. Since 2010 he has been a deputy in the Parliament of the Canton of Sarajevo.

His film Epizoda u životu Beraca željeza had its premiere at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival where it won the Grand Jury Prize and the Silver Bear for Best Actor.
