Danube–Criș–Mureș–Tisa Euroregion

The euro region Danube-Kris -Mures -Tisa ( DKMT ) (Romanian Dunare - Criş -Mureş - Tisa, Hungarian Duna - Körös - Maros - Tisza, Serbian Дунав-Криш-Мориш-Тиса/Dunav-Kriš-Moriš-Tisa ) is a cross -border European economic region, which was established in 1997 between Romania, Hungary and Serbia. Named the region is on the rivers Danube flowing through it, Screaming, Maros and Tisza.

General Information

The euro region DKMT is located in the tri-border region Romania - Serbia - Hungary and includes the following regions:

  • The counties of Arad, Caras -Severin, Hunedoara, Timis in Romania
  • The counties Bács -Kiskun, Békés, Csongrád, Jasz -Nagykun -Szolnok in Hungary
  • The province of Vojvodina in Serbia

The DKMT comprises a total of 5.732 million inhabitants and has an area of ​​77,456 square kilometers.

History

The tri-border region Romania - Serbia - Hungary and the Banat is a historical region that has developed its territorial cohesion in the Habsburg monarchy. Through the colonization of different ethnic and religious groups in the context of spatial planning measures of the Viennese court in the 19th century, the multi-ethnic state - created character. The coexistence model, based on solidarity and the strong commitment to Western European values ​​have shaped the regional awareness across national boundaries. The historical region in 1920 was divided by the Treaty of Trianon by the Yugoslav- Hungarian-Romanian border. The inter-state relations froze, also all the infrastructure facilities have been broken.

During the Revolution of Timisoara from 1989 the first considerations on the establishment of cross-border cooperation between civil organizations (NGOs) and regional administrative units, the first eventually led to bilateral agreements between the various regions and 1997 establishing the DKMT during the 1990s. The Memorandum was signed in Szeged on 21 November 1997. The founding ceremony is celebrated annually on the last weekend in May at the Triplex Confinium. The Triplex Confinium is an obelisk located at the boundary point to the borders Romania, Hungary and Serbia. With this opportunity convenes the General Assembly and the borders are opened temporarily. In 2005, the euro region DKMT was a member of the Association of European Border Regions ( AGEG ).

Objectives

The aim of the euro region DKMT is to develop and implement cross-border economic, cultural and tourist projects and joint sports events. However, one of the main objectives of the Euro region DKMT is recovering and the expansion of roads and infrastructure. Throughout the region, there are currently 316 km highway. The railway - Kikinda - Timişoara Szeged will primarily be put back into operation to restore the former transport network Paris -Budapest- Szeged - Timişoara - Bucureşti - Istanbul. The navigability of the Begakanals and the expansion of airports Arad, Szeged, Timişoara, Novi Sad, Belgrade should be regarded as milestones in the development of the euro region DKMT. A portion of the funds, the European Union's disposal for the rest of the countries will have to pay yourself. The expansion of the basis of ethnic mixing already existing tolerant coexistence of different languages ​​, cultures and mentalities to an understanding with each other is to be pursued.
