Dany Verlinden

Daniel " Dany " Verlinden ( born August 15, 1963 in Aarschot ) is a former Belgian football goalkeeper.

Career

In the club

Dany Verlinden began his professional career at age seventeen at Lierse SK. From 1980 to 1988, the goalkeeper completed a total of 204 games for Lierse. After his move to FC Bruges he was in his second season for the goalkeeper. He managed to keep a clean sheet for a total of 1390 minutes between March 1990 and September 26, 1990 3. This benefit provides up today represents the record not only in the Belgian league, but in all UEFA subordinate peaks leagues

In addition, he held for nearly three years the record as the oldest player inserted in the UEFA Champions League. At 40 years and 116 days Verlinden played in December 2003 in the Champions League for Bruges. The record was surpassed by Alessandro Costacurta on 21 November 2006. The defender of AC Milan was old at that time 40 years and 211 days.

With almost 41 years, Dany Verlinden finished in the summer of 2004 his career at FC Bruges. In sixteen years he won five championships with Bruges and also five cup finals. Since 2004, Verlinden Goalkeeper Coach at FC Bruges.

In the National Team

Verlinden 1981 took part in the U-18 European Championships in Germany and played there for two games over the full length. Later he became one of the World Cup 1994 and the 1998 World Cup as the third goalkeeper in the squad of the Belgian national team, but remained without each use. In March 1998, Verlinden completed his only game, as in the friendly against Norway he kept goal in a 2-2 draw.
