Dapingian

The Dapingium is in Earth's history, the older of the two chronostratigraphic stages of Mittelordovizium series of the Ordovician. The Dapingium - stage corresponds in absolute dating of the period from about 470 to 467.3 million years ago. The Dapingium following the Floium and is detached from the Darriwilium.

Naming and history

The stage is named after a small village near the GSSP. The GSSP was proposed by an international group of scientists in 2005 and confirmed by the ICS 2007. The name for the stage was published in 2009. The Dapingium corresponds to the middle and upper part of the former Arenigium series ( or stage).

Definition and GSSP

The level cap is austrodentatus the first appearance of the graptolite - type Undulograptus. The lower limit (and thus also that of the preceding stage of the Floiums upper limit) is defined by the first appearance of the conodont species Baltoniodus triangularis. The official reference profile ( GSSP = " Global Stratotype Section and Point" ) for the Dapingium is the Huanghuachang profile in the Chinese province of Hubei, 22 km north-east of Yichang on the road from Yichang towards Xinshan circle.
