Darren McGavin

Darren McGavin ( born May 7, 1922 in San Joaquin, California as William Lyle Robertson, † 25 February 2006 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American actor.

Life

McGavin received his acting training at the Neighborhood Playhouse and the Actors Studio in New York. Already in 1945 he was in Charles Vidor's A Song to Remember his film debut. Almost ten years he played more or less small roles until a part in Otto Preminger's drama The Man with the Golden Arm, was awarded an Oscar for Frank Sinatra, the acting breakthrough brought him. In the same year he played a second time, directed by Preminger - in the war drama Damn silenced. In the following years McGavin portrayed often tough, uncompromising characters, such as Mickey Spillane's private eye Mike Hammer in an eponymous television series, such as in Western decision on Big Horn or as a former convict and private investigator David Ross in the television series The Loner. Special gained fame McGavin for his role as an upright journalist and vampire hunter Carl Kolchak in the horror series The night hunters to its X-Files, among others Chris Carter - inspired The Files in the McGavin therefore also in some episodes as Arthur Dales to see was - as the man who started the recording of the X-Files.
