Datarock

Datarock is an electro-rock band from Norway.

History

Frederik Saroea, Ketil Mosnes and Kevin O'Brien founded Datarock in 2000. Had the idea to combine into a band, the musicians during a festival in Bergen, Norway. Soon after, Tom Maeland was added, and O'Brien left the band. Later Maeland got out again. In 2002, the two remaining multi-instrumentalist and Saroea Mosnes took some pieces on, burned it to 400 hand-painted 3inch CDs and sold them in ten different countries.

There followed three EPs and 2005 debut album, Datarock Datarock on the band's own record label, Young Aspiring Professionals. In following years, Datarock have played several concerts worldwide, including over 15,000 spectators from the The Good Vibrations Festival in Sydney and before more than 10,000 at The Meredith Music Festival near Melbourne. 2007 the band at the Hurricane Festival and 2008 on the Coachella music festival in California. The Single Computer Camp Love was elected in 2005 to number 12 in the annual listener charts of Australian youth radio station Triple J. The same title in 2007 reached number 88 in the list of the best 100 songs of the American Rolling Stone.

Style

Datarock unite in their sound funky guitar melodies with elements of electronic music, disco and punk rock. As such, they are associated by the British music press with that established by NME term, New Rave and compared with other bands of this genre such as Klaxons or Shit Disco.

Datarock describe their music as " mixture of musical styles (she ) like yourself " and have this connection to a marked affinity for the entertainment culture and the protagonist from the late seventies and early eighties.
